We are committed to the preservation of our environment through a combination of resource conservation and an awareness of our impact on the world. Following are practices that are in place to ensure our footprint is tiny. We vow to regularly review and to improve upon our policies to ensure sustainability.
Energy Conservation ::
• Home and business is 100% green powered by renewable energy
• Use rechargeable batteries for all equipment
• Turn off or unplug all equipment and chargers that are not in use
• Errands and car trips are combined to reduce fuel usage (which allows us to only have one car!)
• Purchase energy efficient equipment and appliances that are built to last
• Use energy efficient lighting and dimmers
• Heating and cooling is regulated with a programmable thermostat
• Entrances are equipped with weather stripping to reduce heat loss
Waste Reduction ::
• Online proofing & photo sharing means no printed proofs
• Reuse equipment as long as possible then donate, sell, recycle or properly dispose it
• Books are created to showcase many photos without the need for printing them all
• Reuse excess prints for client samples and marketing materials
• Print necessary documents double-sided
• Reuse paper, cardboard, and packing materials
• Everything is recycled including paper, cardboard, glass, metal, plastic, and Styrofoam
• Organic items such as food scraps, paper plates and yard waste are composted
• Communications are usually sent using digital communications rather than print based methods (telephone or e-mail before faxes or mailed copies)
• Office printer uses special ink sticks with recyclable packaging and minimal waste (no toner or ink cartridges)
Respect for Environment & Resources ::
• Purchase supplies that are either recycled, recyclable or both
• Carefully select vendors that are also committed to our environment
• Albums are specially crafted with environmentally friendly covers, glue, pages, inks, cloth fibers and leathers
• Operating out of our home means no daily commute and no separate office space
• Necessary travel is mitigated by donating to environmental projects and purchasing carbon offsets
• Embrace the “reduce, reuse, recycle” philosophy in all aspects of our lives and business
• Cleaning products are biodegradable and non-toxic
• Steam is used to clean without any chemicals
• Food including veggies, meat, and dairy are sourced locally whenever possible
• Local businesses are supported if possible
• Associate with and volunteer for organizations such as Greener Photography, Keep Indianapolis Beautiful, and Arbor Day Foundation
